Banda Kani says Elimbi Lobe is a small-time politician without national reach

In an interview released on Tuesday, 23 June 2026, the national president of the New Popular Movement (NMP) accused Sunday’s Info Tv guest of having a legendary habit of changing his positions.

Cameroonian politician Banda Kani is furious with tribal agitator Elimbi Lobe. During an interview broadcast on his page on 23 June 2026, the NMP leader expressed his exasperation with Elimbi Lobe, particularly after the latter described nationalist Ernest Ouandié as a ‘bandit’ on Info Tv, a Yaoundé-based television station.

‘By calling Ouandié a bandit, Elimbi Lobe disgraced himself,’ said pan-Africanist Banda Kani. According to him, Elimbi Lobe will never become a strong political figure. ‘He has reduced himself to a good-for-nothing. He has turned into a political actor who will never have national stature in this country. He has become a petty ward-level politician who is simply angling for a parliamentary seat,’ he added.

Could he have said such things when he was in the SDF?

Drawing on history, Banda Kani denounced Elimbi Lobe’s inconsistency, pointing to the different discourse he used when he was a member of the Social Democratic Front (SDF). ‘He is following an electoral strategy. Look at his record. Read his own statements from 2011 when he was in the SDF. Back then he glorified national integration. He even praised the role of the Bamiléké in building the nation, declaring that his best friend was a Bamiléké to whom he wanted to give his son’s name,’ he continued.

‘In 2015, he denounced tribalism. When he was in the SDF, could he have made such remarks? The party would have stopped him. You are dealing with a small-time politician who thinks that being elected deputy will be the peak of his political career,’ Banda Kani concluded.
