As part of the ongoing oversight of major initiatives aimed at modernizing Bénin’s national road network, Georges Alé, the Minister of Living Environment and Transport, conducted a comprehensive inspection tour last Tuesday. His visit encompassed three vital construction sites, with a strong focus on technical standards, environmental protection, public health safeguards, and strict adherence to contractual deadlines.
The ministerial delegation’s initial stop was the Djonou bridge, situated within the Abomey-Calavi municipality. At this location, dredging operations have been successfully completed. This crucial intervention has effectively cleared the waterway, ensuring improved rainwater evacuation and enhancing the overall structural safety of the bridge.
Subsequently, the minister proceeded to the construction site for the 2×2 lane expansion of the Missessinto-Allada section (RNIE2), a project being executed by the SCET Tunisie / BECI BTP consortium. While acknowledging the satisfactory progress and positive momentum of the work, Georges Alé underscored the imperative of meticulously following the contractual schedule to promptly provide users with a modern and secure thoroughfare.
The inspection concluded at the Allada roundabout and the newly developed retention basins within the vicinity. Demonstrating keen attention to sanitation concerns, the minister directed technical teams to collaborate closely with the Ministry of Health. This proactive measure aims to foresee and prevent any potential health hazards arising from stagnant water.
Concluding his tour, Georges Alé reiterated the government’s overarching vision: « Our construction efforts are designed to serve multiple generations. This commitment necessitates prioritizing safety, public health, and uncompromising quality in every single element we put in place. »
