Writing on the occasion of the memorial of the martyrs Charles Lwanga and his companions, the bishop of Butembo-Beni, Mgr Sikuli Paluku Melchisédech, addressed a strong message to the Congolese authorities. He lamented the deteriorating socio-security situation in his diocese, located in the eastern part of the Democratic Republic of Congo.

With deep bitterness, the bishop observed a significant gap between the priorities of political leaders and the actual, legitimate needs of the Congolese population. He urged the government to refocus its efforts on tackling the real challenges facing ordinary citizens, including insecurity and poverty.
