Boko Haram resurgence in Lake Chad region sparks Chad military response

In a firm declaration, Chadian President Mahamat Idriss Déby Itno vowed to intensify efforts against the persistent threat posed by Boko Haram. On May 5, he took to social media to assert: “Our resolve remains unshaken as we escalate our campaign to eliminate this danger once and for all.” His statement followed a devastating assault the previous day, when militants from the armed Islamist faction targeted a military outpost in Barka Tolorom, situated on the Chadian shore of Lake Chad, resulting in the tragic loss of 24 soldiers.
