The President of Chad, Mahamat Idriss Déby Itno, delivered a stern warning in a May 5th statement on Facebook: “We will continue this fight with unwavering resolve until this threat is completely eliminated.” His remarks came in response to a brutal assault carried out by a Boko Haram splinter faction on the military base at Barka Tolorom, situated along the Chadian shoreline of Lake Chad, which resulted in 24 soldier fatalities.
