Boko haram threat surges in lake Chad region amid latest attack

Chad’s President Mahamat Idriss Déby Itno made a firm pledge on 5 May when he declared on social media: “We will continue this fight with fresh resolve until this danger is completely wiped out.” His statement followed a brutal assault by a Boko Haram offshoot on the military outpost at Barka Tolorom, situated on the Chadian side of Lake Chad. The raid left 24 soldiers dead and underscored the persistent threat posed by the insurgent group.
