Bradley Barcola’s future at PSG nearing a decision

For several weeks, the future of Bradley Barcola has been a hot topic at PSG, where the former Lyon winger is reportedly unhappy with his role as a luxury substitute in big matches. With Liverpool showing strong interest, a resolution is expected soon as Barcola’s contract runs until 2028 — if he doesn’t extend, a departure becomes necessary.

Bradley Barcola, who came off the bench in both Champions League finals that PSG contested, does see significant playing time, but he is not Luis Enrique’s first choice when it comes to starting lineups for the biggest games. This situation could push the former Lyon standout to leave Paris. Liverpool is among the clubs interested. However, the matter has been relatively stagnant, likely to remain so while the World Cup is ongoing. Yet given that Barcola’s contract expires in 2028, things could accelerate soon.

Barcola, an imminent decision?

The feeling he has — or perhaps the one his close circle instills in him — seems somewhat unjustified. But there is a contractual reality. Barcola arrived at Paris Saint-Germain in the summer of 2023, with two years still left on his deal. He is now in the window for a potential extension. If he does not extend at Paris, now is the time to get the highest possible transfer fee. Therefore, we are about to see a resolution shortly. We will find out whether Barcola’s discontent is serious enough to make him leave the double European champions. It is out of the question to keep a player against his will who does not fully embrace the project and does not truly want to be here.
