Following an official directive from Prime Minister Joseph Dion Ngute, Cameroon has announced an additional extension to its ongoing national census operations. This marks the second consecutive extension aimed at ensuring comprehensive coverage of households, individuals, and agricultural holdings nationwide.

Local reports indicate that only 60.4% of the population has been accounted for since the census began in April. Challenges persist, including unpaid census worker salaries, which have sparked protests, low household participation rates, and language barriers in certain regions.

Urban areas like Yaoundé and Douala face unique hurdles, with census teams reportedly missing entire neighborhoods due to outdated mapping. The census, the fourth of its kind, is designed to capture critical demographic, housing, and agricultural data.

Authorities have emphasized the importance of this extended phase to rectify gaps and ensure accurate national statistics.
