Ceuta: calls for de-escalation amid Morocco-Spain border challenges

Tensions persist between Morocco and Spain concerning the Ceuta border, prompting calls for mutual de-escalation to address the ongoing challenges. Despite online speculation suggesting a reopening of the passage to Ceuta this Saturday, August 15th, authorities from both nations have confirmed the implementation of new measures designed to prevent another significant surge of migrants. This follows a major incident in late July when approximately 72,000 individuals crossed into Spain from Ceuta, with the vast majority subsequently repatriated to Morocco. Patrick Martin-Genier, an academic at Sciences Po, emphasized the need for both sides to alleviate current difficulties and seek a calmer approach to the situation.
