Detention follows defamation complaint in N’Djamena
Ahmat Bedei Toullomi, president of the Borkou Provincial Council, was taken into custody Thursday late afternoon in N’Djamena and transferred to the General Coordination of the Judicial Police. The operation occurred within the premises of the Hôtel La Résidence just before 5 p.m.
Allegations of online defamation spark legal action
The arrest stems from a formal complaint filed for defamation and public insults. According to court documents, the complaint was lodged by Goudje Gueillet Hemchi and Kodou Omari, who accuse Ahmat Bedei Toullomi of publishing damaging claims on social media. Specifically, they allege he accused them of involvement in a cocaine trafficking operation in Chad.
The complainants strongly deny these allegations, calling them “completely false, baseless, and fabricated.” They maintain that the accusations have severely damaged their reputation and personal integrity.
Legal proceedings escalate after missed summons
An arrest warrant for Ahmat Bedei Toullomi was issued on August 4, 2026, by the prosecutor’s office at the N’Djamena Court of First Instance, requiring his presence for questioning regarding the accusations made against him.
Prior to his detention, he had been summoned multiple times but failed to appear. After more than ten days without compliance, law enforcement proceeded with his arrest to ensure his presence before the relevant authorities for formal questioning.
Social media statement raises concerns
Moments after his apprehension, a message appeared on his Facebook page at 5:10 p.m., stating: “Either the Marshal stands with us all, or the traffickers are stronger than the law. I’ve been abducted.”
It is important to clarify that this detention is part of a judicial procedure and not an arbitrary action.
