Chad Vice Prime Minister reviews local governance in Moundou

Chad’s Vice Prime Minister, Limane Mahamat, has been in Moundou since May 19, 2026, leading a high-level mission to assess and strengthen territorial governance across the country’s southern provinces.

The two-day working session, held at the Logone Occidental provincial council headquarters, brought together regional leaders, including government delegates, prefects, urban mayors, provincial council presidents, and national legislators from the southern zone.

At the opening of the discussions, the government delegate for Logone Occidental, Dago Yacoub, welcomed the delegation from N’Djamena. He emphasized that the gathering provides a vital opportunity for authorities to gain deeper insights into local realities and prioritize community needs. The mission, he noted, allows the Vice Prime Minister to experience firsthand the challenges faced by residents, enabling the formulation of targeted solutions.

Speaking at the event, Vice Prime Minister Limane Mahamat underscored the strategic importance of southern Chad, describing the region as the nation’s agricultural backbone due to its critical role in food security. He also highlighted pressing security concerns affecting the area, including farmer-herder conflicts, intercommunal tensions, and illegal arms trafficking—issues that threaten social cohesion and deepen community divisions.

The initiative reflects the government’s commitment to enhancing local governance and fostering stronger collaboration between central authorities and regional administrations.
