With Chad’s 66th Independence Day celebration approaching on August 11, 2026, Pahimi Padacké Albert, who leads the National Rally of Chadian Democrats (RNDT-Le Réveil) and stands as a prominent opposition figure, has issued a heartfelt plea for national unity, appeasement, and profound reconciliation.
Addressing the Chadian populace on the eve of this significant national holiday, the former Prime Minister articulated his message with a sense of «humility, gravity, and responsibility».
Pahimi Padacké Albert observed that this year’s commemoration unfolds amidst a political landscape fraught with underlying tensions and widespread frustrations. «We mark our freedom this year within an atmosphere of quiet yet heavy political strain, and deep-seated frustrations stemming from a pervasive sense of multidimensional exclusion,» he conveyed.
In response to this challenging scenario, the head of RNDT-Le Réveil strongly advocated for increased dialogue and greater political openness. «Today, I once again responsibly appeal for unity, for peace, for a spirit of openness, and for the reconciliation of hearts across our nation,» he further emphasized.
Within his address, Pahimi Padacké Albert directly appealed to the President of the Republic, Mahamat Idriss Déby Itno, urging him to implement decisive actions aimed at strengthening national cohesion.
He stated: «As we stand on the threshold of this significant celebration, I solemnly call upon all Chadians, and particularly upon the Marshal of Chad, President of the Republic, Mahamat Idriss Déby Itno: May strong decisions be enacted to overcome feelings of exclusion and bring our people together more fully within the unity of the Chadian family. May the constitutional resources available to the Head of State be mobilized to restore freedom to political figures whose rightful place is not in prison. May a genuine political opening, built upon frank, fraternal, and patriotic discussions, solidify this drive for appeasement, honoring the rich political, cultural, and religious diversity of all the nation’s sons and daughters.»
