Members of the Senate Bureau

The President of the Senate, Sama Lukonde, announced on Wednesday, June 10, during a plenary session, that the National Assembly had transmitted the bill outlining the conditions for organizing a referendum in the Democratic Republic of Congo.

This draft legislation, slated for second reading by the upper house of Parliament, has been referred to the Political, Administrative and Legal Affairs Committee (PAJ) for thorough review. The committee has been given a three-day window to finalize its report.

The bill was initially introduced in the National Assembly by Deputy Paul-Gaspard Ngondankoy, representing the Yahuma territory in Tshopo province.

On May 9, the lower house of Parliament adopted the text with overwhelming support. Out of 351 voting deputies, 348 voted in favor, two voted against, and one abstained.
