The legal complaint filed against Ousmane Sonko concerning statements about the holy city of Touba remains in force. This was confirmed by Serigne Makhtar Bousso, spokesperson for the plaintiffs, who was heard this Tuesday as part of the ongoing inquiry.
The case stems from a formal request submitted to the public prosecutor on 14 July 2026 by Serigne Modou Maroun Niang and Serigne Mourtalla Bousso. The two complainants, who identify themselves as grandsons of Cheikh Ahmadou Bamba, accuse the president of the National Assembly of making remarks during the inauguration of the Pastef headquarters in Mbacké. According to them, Ousmane Sonko suggested that illicit funds had made their way into the holy city of Touba.
The plaintiffs argue that such declarations could tarnish the honour and reputation of Touba, a city founded by Cheikh Ahmadou Bamba on principles of religious devotion and integrity. They are therefore calling on the author of these statements to clarify the meaning of his words and provide evidence to support them. Serigne Makhtar Bousso reiterated this demand, insisting that full transparency is needed regarding remarks aimed at the religious metropolis.
