Dakar court postpones Mame Mbaye Niang vs Ousmane Sonko case to july 2026

The Dakar Appeal Court has postponed the legal showdown between Mame Mbaye Niang and Ousmane Sonko until 22 July 2026. This adjournment was granted at the request of Sonko‘s legal team, allowing them additional time to prepare responses to the latest submissions filed in the case.

The dispute centers on a fraudulent property transfer involving a villa located in the Cité Keur Gorgui district. Mame Mbaye Niang had previously secured a court ruling ordering Sonko to pay 200 million CFA francs in damages. However, when Niang attempted to enforce the judgment, he encountered a roadblock: the property’s leasehold rights had allegedly been reassigned to Sonko‘s family, effectively shielding the asset from seizure.

allegations of deliberate insolvency tactics

Legal representatives for Niang argue that the property transfer was a calculated move to render Sonko financially insolvent and evade financial obligations. They claim the transfer was executed with full knowledge of the ongoing legal proceedings, aiming to obstruct the enforcement of the court’s monetary award.

This case initially surfaced before being deferred to 10 June, during which interval Niang‘s attorneys crafted their counterarguments against Sonko‘s defense filings.
