The Diomaye Président coalition has strongly criticized recent statements made by Ousmane Sonko during the inauguration of the Pastef headquarters in Mbacké. Leaders of the coalition view his remarks as disrespectful toward the nation’s highest office and a departure from the integrity expected of a senior state official.
Bassirou Dieng, a prominent figure within the coalition, emphasized that such language undermines the foundational principles of a democratic state. « In a nation governed by law, where democracy and republican values prevail, it is unacceptable for a National Assembly President to make derogatory comments about the Head of State, » he stated in an interview. According to him, Sonko‘s statements have sparked widespread disapproval across social media and news outlets.
« Since his address in Mbacké, reactions have flooded platforms online and in the press. Nearly everyone agrees his words were inflammatory, » Dieng noted, urging Sonko to exercise restraint. He also warned that the coalition will no longer tolerate what it perceives as repeated attacks on state institutions.
« The Diomaye Président coalition will respond decisively. Going forward, we cannot afford to overlook derogatory remarks from Ousmane Sonko—whether directed at the President or other officials representing the Republic, » he declared. This firm stance follows Sonko‘s latest public statements, which have intensified political discussions and drawn sharp criticism from the ruling majority.
