On June 5, 2026, Burkina Faso’s Foreign Minister, Karamoko Jean Marie Traoré, alongside Deputy Minister Camarade Bêbgnasgnan Stella Eldine Kabre/Kabore, welcomed the newly appointed head of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) in Burkina Faso, Dr. Anselme Siméon Sanou. The meeting served as a platform for Dr. Sanou to outline his office’s strategic priorities and seek collaboration with Burkina Faso’s diplomatic corps to advance key UNODC initiatives.

During the discussions, Dr. Sanou emphasized that the UNODC’s priorities—including combating organized crime, drug trafficking, arms smuggling, and terrorism—closely align with Burkina Faso’s national security objectives. He reiterated his office’s commitment to supporting the government’s efforts in addressing these challenges.

In response, Minister Traoré praised Dr. Sanou’s appointment, highlighting the value of his local expertise in enhancing the effectiveness of international cooperation.
