Ebola Bundibugyo in DRC: 19 patients recover, Ituri remains epicentre
Since the official declaration of the Ebola Bundibugyo virus disease on May 15 in eastern DRC, response systems have been activated, enabling rapid care in the affected health zones of Ituri, North Kivu, and South Kivu. As of today, 19 patients have recovered from the disease and left the Ebola treatment centre.
As of June 7, health data show 550 confirmed cases including 101 deaths across all affected health zones. Currently, 309 patients are in isolation for treatment.
Ituri remains the epicentre of the outbreak. Of the 25 affected health zones, 17 are located in this province, nearly half of Ituri’s 36 health zones.
The affected zones include Aru, Aungba, Bambu, Bunia, Damas, Gety, Kilo, Komanda, Lita, Logo, Mambasa, Mangala, Mongbwalu, Nizi, Nyankunde, Rimba, and Rwampara.
