This strategic alignment is specifically intended to pave the way for an upcoming royal visit to France, during which a treaty solidifying this strengthened alliance is expected to be signed.
On his inaugural official journey to the Kingdom since assuming his role in 2025, Prime Minister Lecornu arrived with a substantial delegation comprising a dozen ministers, notably Jean-Noël Barrot for Foreign Affairs and Laurent Nunez for Interior. The French head of government is scheduled for a private discussion with his Moroccan counterpart, Aziz Akhannouch, before jointly chairing a high-level summit. This crucial gathering is anticipated to culminate in the signing of multiple bilateral agreements spanning vital sectors such as economics, immigration, justice, and defense.
Economically, discussions are centered on fostering co-development across Africa. Leveraging Morocco’s strategic position as a logistical and financial hub, enterprises from both nations aim to forge collaborative projects targeting the expansive African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA). The Kingdom’s robust commercial vitality, evidenced by its intra-African exports surging by 20.7% in 2025, coupled with its integration into the Pan-African Payment and Settlement System (PAPSS), establishes a secure environment for investments. Furthermore, amid global geopolitical uncertainties, particularly concerning areas like the Strait of Hormuz, Morocco’s advanced port infrastructure is emerging as a highly strategic alternative route for logistical movements connecting Asia, Europe, and Africa.
Beyond economic collaboration and the concept of industrial co-production, regional security stands as an absolute priority for both Paris and Rabat. The two capitals share significant concerns regarding instability within the Sahel region, characterized by permeable borders and a rise in terrorist threats. By intensifying their security and migratory coordination, France and Morocco are committed to giving tangible depth to this exceptional partnership, which their respective diplomacies now aspire to strengthen and elevate even further.
