Franco Mastantuono’s future in doubt as Real Madrid eyes Serie A loan
Real Madrid is actively seeking a loan destination for teenage sensation Franco Mastantuono after a challenging debut season in the Spanish capital. The 18-year-old Argentinian’s future hangs in the balance as Europe’s elite clubs circle, with Serie A emerging as the most likely destination following a tough first year at the Santiago Bernabéu.
Real Madrid seeks ideal loan destination for Mastantuono
Following a private meeting between club officials and the young player’s representatives earlier this week, both sides agreed that a temporary move would benefit his development. Despite his immense talent, Mastantuono struggled to secure consistent first-team minutes during his initial campaign in Madrid.
With the summer transfer window in full swing, Real Madrid is prioritizing a loan deal that guarantees the teenager regular playing time. The club’s hierarchy is determined to find a club where he can thrive, ideally in a position that aligns with his strengths as an attacking midfielder.
Serie A clubs line up for the young Argentinian
Mastantuono’s situation has drawn significant interest from top Italian clubs, with Fiorentina reportedly already in advanced discussions with Real Madrid over a potential loan deal. Napoli and AC Milan have also expressed strong interest, while a return to Argentina was firmly ruled out by the Spanish giants.
The player’s dual Italian-Argentinian nationality makes him an attractive prospect for Serie A teams. Real Madrid is unlikely to consider a move to England or South America, leaving Italy as the most viable option for the young playmaker’s next chapter.
Tactical fit is crucial for Real Madrid
The club’s primary requirement for any loan deal is that Mastantuono is deployed in his preferred number 10 role. His ability to dictate play from an advanced midfield position is central to his development, and Real Madrid is keen to avoid repeating the positional mismatches he faced under previous managers.
Under Xabi Alonso and Álvaro Arbeloa, Mastantuono was often deployed out wide, a role that limited his impact. The club is now insistent that any loan move must include assurances he will feature as a creative playmaker, ensuring his technical skills and vision are fully utilized.
Pre-season plans remain uncertain
Despite the ongoing transfer talks, Mastantuono has maintained strong relationships with new first-team manager José Mourinho. However, his participation in the upcoming pre-season tour remains uncertain as Real Madrid weighs all available options.
The club will take its time evaluating offers over the coming weeks before finalizing any decision. Until then, the young Argentinian’s future—and his next destination—remains an open question.
