The President of the Gabonese Republic, Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema, arrived yesterday in Banjul, the capital of Gambia, for a four-day working and friendship visit. He was warmly received by his counterpart, Adama Barrow, with whom he held a private meeting followed by bilateral talks at the official residence. The discussions focused on evaluating existing cooperation areas and exploring fresh avenues for partnership between the two nations. Both leaders reaffirmed their shared commitment to deepen bilateral ties and foster sustainable economic development.
Today, the Gabonese head of state is scheduled for another meeting with his host. The visit, aimed at strengthening the Libreville-Banjul axis, will also include tours of key government facilities and historic sites. Among the planned stops are the National Food and Drug Quality Control Laboratory in Brusubi, the University of Gambia, the National Emergency Treatment Center in Farato, and the renowned Kachikally Crocodile Pool in Bakau.
A state banquet hosted by President Barrow in honor of his distinguished guest is also part of the itinerary.
It is worth noting that Gambia’s economy is primarily driven by tourism, agriculture, and re-export trade, with a real GDP growth rate of 6.1%, fueled by a robust service sector.
This official visit by Gabon’s top leader forms part of a broader tour of African countries, with a particular focus on West African nations.
