Granit Xhaka prepares for imminent Premier League transfer to Chelsea
Granit Xhaka is reportedly on the cusp of finalizing a transfer to Chelsea. Reports on Saturday indicated that the London-based club had submitted an offer of thirty million euros to secure the services of the experienced midfielder. Furthermore, it appears the 33-year-old player has already reached a personal agreement with the Blues.
“Exclusive information: Granit Xhaka and Chelsea have already come to a verbal agreement regarding a transfer,” a prominent journalist shared on X on Saturday evening. “A comprehensive understanding has already been established concerning personal terms.”
Chelsea has also initiated discussions with Sunderland, Xhaka’s current club. Notably, Xabi Alonso is making significant efforts to bring Xhaka into the fold. Alonso and Xhaka share a professional history, having played together at Bayer Leverkusen between 2023 and 2025.
Xhaka began his professional journey at FC Basel before moving on to Borussia Mönchengladbach, Arsenal, and then Leverkusen. He joined Sunderland a year ago in a fifteen-million-euro deal.
During his tenure with Sunderland, who impressed by finishing seventh in the Premier League last season, the Swiss international participated in 36 official matches. He contributed one goal and six assists for the club.
Xhaka remains under contract with Sunderland until mid-2028. His market value is currently estimated at eight million euros.
The left-footed midfielder, who boasts 149 international caps, is currently leading Switzerland as captain in the ongoing World Cup. He has played every minute of the group stage, where Switzerland secured the top spot in Group B and is set to face a third-placed team in the next round.
