The Group for the Support of Islam and Muslims (JNIM) has categorically refuted circulating claims regarding the death of Sidna Ag Hita, a key figure close to the group’s leader Iyad Ag Gali and its second-in-command. These reports emerged following an announcement by the African Legion that Ag Hita was targeted in an airstrike near Diabali, in central Mali.
Sources within the JNIM confirmed that Ag Hita remains alive and in good health, emphasizing that the death claims lack credible evidence. The group has not issued any statement confirming his injury or demise, further dismissing the unverified reports as baseless.
On May 27, the African Legion released a statement revealing that an airstrike and rocket fire struck a rural encampment linked to the armed faction during the night. According to their assessment at the time, Ag Hita was believed to be present at the targeted site.
