The 27th anniversary of Morocco’s Throne Day in Bamako highlighted the deepening ties between Mali and Morocco, with a focus on shared economic growth and regional cooperation.
Diplomatic ties and strategic partnerships
In his remarks, a senior Moroccan diplomat outlined the progress in Mali-Morocco cooperation, emphasizing the strategic importance of South-South collaboration. «The dynamic momentum Morocco has achieved in its African relations, particularly in Sub-Saharan Africa and Mali, reflects a shared vision for development,» he noted.
Former Moroccan-trained official Abou Djitteye expressed pride in the strengthening partnership, stating, «It is reassuring to witness the flourishing relations between our two nations.» He extended well-wishes to His Majesty the King, underscoring the enduring friendship.
Moroccan ambassador’s vision for African partnerships
Driss Isbayène, Morocco’s ambassador to Mali, reiterated the commitment to solidarity-based cooperation. «Under the leadership of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, South-South cooperation has become a cornerstone of our foreign policy,» he said. «Our approach is clear: build concrete projects with African partners that directly benefit local communities.»
He added that 2026 would be a pivotal year in Mali-Morocco relations, marking a new chapter in their shared history.
Mali’s recognition of Morocco’s sovereignty
Driss Isbayène highlighted Mali’s recent decision to withdraw recognition of the Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic (RASD), calling it a «historic step» that has paved the way for stronger bilateral ties. This move was followed by the convening of the Mali-Morocco Joint High Commission last week, further solidifying their partnership.
Mali’s appreciation for Morocco’s regional support
Mali’s Foreign Minister, Abdoulaye Diop, praised Morocco’s contributions to peace, security, and development in the Alliance of Sahel States (AES). «This 27th anniversary is an opportunity to reaffirm our deep appreciation for Morocco’s unwavering support across the Sahel,» he stated.
He also commended the Moroccan Royal Atlantic Initiative, which aims to provide landlocked Sahel nations with access to the Atlantic Ocean, enhancing trade and connectivity.
