Malick Gackou rallies pastef militants amid rising kiiraay tensions

In a bold move to reinforce Pastef’s foundations, former minister Malick Gackou has issued a stern call to party members, urging them to uphold discipline and collective commitment to preserve the movement’s core sovereign ideals.
As multiple Pastef officials and activists shift allegiance to Kiiraay, the new political formation aligned with President Bassirou Diomaye Faye, Malick Gackou is rallying the troops to maintain cohesion within the party led by Ousmane Sonko.
In a direct message to ‘the Patriots,’ the veteran politician emphasizes the critical importance of discipline and loyalty to the principles that underpin Pastef’s political vision. He asserts that the movement’s strength lies in unified action and the exemplary conduct of its leaders. ‘Exemplarity is our greatest asset,’ he stresses, urging members to stay the course despite internal challenges.
‘To safeguard our sovereign ambitions and solidify President Ousmane Sonko’s leadership, we must remain united and serve our nation’s development with unwavering integrity,’ Malick Gackou declared. His remarks come as Kiiraay gains traction, with several former Pastef members joining the new party to support the head of state’s initiatives. Faced with this shifting dynamic, Malick Gackou is working to reignite momentum and strengthen Pastef’s internal unity ahead of upcoming political milestones.
Preserving the movement’s core values
Pastef’s credibility, Malick Gackou argues, hinges on the conduct of those who represent it. He calls on militants to prioritize the collective good over individual ambitions, warning that fragmentation could undermine the party’s long-term vision. ‘Our strength lies in our cohesion,’ he asserts, positioning Pastef as a bulwark against political instability in Senegal.
A strategic response to growing dissent
The emergence of Kiiraay as a rival force has prompted a wave of departures from Pastef, with some citing alignment with President Bassirou Diomaye Faye’s agenda. In response, Malick Gackou is doubling down on calls for unity, positioning Pastef as the true guardian of the people’s aspirations. His intervention underscores the party’s determination to weather internal and external pressures while maintaining its policy agenda.
