The solid ties between Mauritania and Gabon received further endorsement during a high-level meeting in Libreville. His Excellency Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema, President of Gabon, welcomed Ms. Messouda Bahama Mohamed Laghdaf, special envoy of Mauritania’s President Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani.
The Mauritanian Minister of Environment and Sustainable Development carried an official message from her country’s leadership. She emphasized Mauritania’s eagerness to deepen bilateral cooperation with Gabon—partnerships rooted in solidarity, mutual respect, and ongoing dialogue on shared African challenges.
During the discussion, she formally presented Mauritania’s bid to lead the International Organisation of La Francophonie (OIF). Dr. Koumba Ba is leading this campaign, which centers on three core pillars: coherence, balance, and direct utility for member states. The strategy aims to reposition the Francophonie as an engine for collective progress across Africa and beyond.
The meeting underscored the strength of diplomatic relations between Gabon and Mauritania. President Oligui Nguema reaffirmed Gabon’s commitment to consensus-building and inclusive governance—values that guide its continental and global engagements. This dialogue reflects Gabon’s proactive foreign policy, which seeks to expand African partnerships while championing a Francophonie that delivers tangible benefits to its members.
