Modou Mbaye, a prominent public figure in Sénégal, has publicly praised Ousmane Sonko on his birthday, describing him as a rare example of an honest politician whose actions reflect unwavering dedication to the nation’s interests.
In a heartfelt social media tribute, Mbaye emphasized Sonko’s transparency and selfless leadership, urging young people in Sénégal to prioritize national unity over political divides. His message resonated widely, sparking discussions about the qualities needed in public office.
A rare leader in politics
Mbaye’s tribute highlighted Sonko’s unmatched integrity, stating, “For the first time in Sénégal, we have a politician whose words match his actions—one who serves the country, not personal interests.” This rare endorsement comes after years of following Sonko’s work from afar, culminating in a recent face-to-face meeting.
From admiration to personal connection
Despite decades of support, Mbaye had never met Sonko—until last week. “I’ve followed and defended him for years without ever seeing his face, but our recent meeting only strengthened my belief in his vision,” he shared. His admiration remains steadfast, with Mbaye declaring he would continue supporting Sonko’s cause “for another decade without hesitation.”
A call for national cohesion
Beyond personal praise, Mbaye’s message extended to the youth of Sénégal, urging them to set aside differences and focus on collective progress. “Unity is our strength—whether in politics or beyond. Let’s rise above provocation and stay committed to building a better future,” he urged. His birthday tribute to Sonko concluded with a simple yet powerful wish: “Happy birthday to a man of honesty, simplicity, and dignity.”
