A Moroccan parliamentary delegation took part in the 10th Summit of Parliament Presidents and the 19th plenary session of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Union for the Mediterranean (PA-UfM), held Saturday and Sunday at the Egyptian Parliament’s headquarters in the new administrative capital.

Led by Abdelmajid Fassi Fihri, Vice-President of the Chamber of Representatives, the delegation seized the opportunity to bolster the Kingdom’s presence within PA-UfM bodies.

During the event, a Bureau and enlarged Bureau meeting took place, where the plenary session approved the composition of the new PA-UfM Bureau for the 2026–2030 term as well as the chairmanships of permanent commissions.

As a result, Morocco was elected to the Assembly’s Bureau and entrusted with chairing the Artificial Intelligence Commission, reflecting the trust placed in Moroccan parliamentary diplomacy and the prominent role now occupied by the Moroccan Parliament within this Euro-Mediterranean body.

Speaking on behalf of the Moroccan Parliament, Fassi Fihri emphasized that the PA-UfM remains a key framework for strengthening dialogue and cooperation between parliaments on both sides of the Mediterranean.

He highlighted that the chosen topics—artificial intelligence, youth participation, and parliamentary diplomacy for peace and stability in the Middle East—reflect a collective awareness among the Euro-Mediterranean parliamentary community amid a period of profound transition. This transition goes beyond technological change to encompass shifts in sensibilities, cultures, influence levers, and decision-making mechanisms.

Fassi Fihri added that under the enlightened leadership of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, Morocco continues to modernize its economy, consolidate digital transformation, and develop technological infrastructure, aligning with a strategic vision that positions the knowledge economy as a key driver of sustainable development, enhanced competitiveness, and a stronger position for Morocco as a reliable partner in the Mediterranean, Africa, and beyond.

The Moroccan delegation, which included Chaoui Belassal, Meriem Rmili, Houria Didi, Rabab Aïlal, Salwa Demnati, and Ibrahim Aâba, participated in meetings of various organs and commissions. They contributed to discussions on priority issues for the Mediterranean space: parliamentary diplomacy, artificial intelligence, youth involvement in decision-making, and strengthening security, stability, and shared development.

The proceedings concluded with a call to maintain parliamentary coordination among member states and to strengthen the PA-UfM’s role as a dialogue and trust-building platform serving the security, stability, sustainable development, and shared prosperity of Mediterranean peoples.
