Nouakchott — A high-ranking Moroccan military delegation, led by General of the Army Mohammed Berrid, Inspector General of the Royal Armed Forces (FAR) and Commander of the Southern Zone, concluded a productive working visit to Mauritania this week.
During the visit, General Berrid was received by President Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghezouani in Nouakchott. The meeting took place in the presence of Hamid Chabar, Morocco’s Ambassador to Mauritania, as confirmed by an official statement from the Moroccan General Staff.
Following the audience with the Mauritanian head of state, the delegation proceeded to the Ministry of Defense, where General Berrid engaged in discussions with Minister of Defense Hanana Ould Sidi. In a symbolic gesture, the Mauritanian minister presented General Berrid with the National Order of Merit (Commander Grade) on behalf of the President of Mauritania.
Later in the day, General Berrid and Mauritania’s Chief of Staff co-chaired the sixth session of the Mixed Military Commission between the two nations. The discussions centered on reviewing and reinforcing defense cooperation frameworks, with both sides acknowledging the substantial progress achieved in recent years.
In a joint statement, military officials from both countries praised the strong strategic partnership and highlighted the concrete results stemming from their collaboration. The outcomes of this visit underscore the deepening defense ties between Morocco and Mauritania, reinforcing regional stability and mutual security commitments.
