Olympique Lyonnais’ Ligue 1 clash with Auxerre postponed until Champions League fate is sealed
The third qualifying round of the UEFA Champions League will determine when Olympique Lyonnais (OL) finally face AJ Auxerre in Ligue 1. The French Football League (LFP) has already announced the fixtures for eight matches between September 3 and 6, but the date for the Lyon-Auxerre showdown remains undecided.
This uncertainty stems from OL’s upcoming two-legged tie against Sparta Prague in August. Depending on the outcome, the match against Auxerre could be slotted in either of two possible windows. The LFP has confirmed that the final schedule for OL vs Auxerre will be set on August 12.
Two possible dates for the Lyon-Auxerre showdown
Paulo Fonseca’s side will travel to Prague on August 20 for the first leg of their Champions League qualifier. The return leg at Parc OL is scheduled for August 27, though the exact kick-off time is still to be announced. The result of these matches will dictate whether OL meets Auxerre on September 4 or September 5.
- September 4, 2026 (19:00 CET) – If OL advances to the Champions League playoffs, their Ligue 1 fixture against Auxerre will be played on this date.
- September 5, 2026 (20:45 CET) – If OL fails to qualify after the third round, the match will be rescheduled for the following day.
