Could football fans soon watch a Ligue 1 match for free each week on open television? That is the goal of an amendment attached to a bill aimed at reforming professional sport, currently being examined by the National Assembly. At the moment, watching a top‑flight French league game requires a subscription to Ligue1+, costing from €15 per month. The platform has about one million subscribers. Unsurprisingly, the prospect of a weekly free match has excited supporters.
