Cameroon opposition unites behind Joshua Osih’s call to enforce electoral calendar without delay

During a press conference on July 23, Joshua Osih, leader of the Social Democratic Front (SDF), urged the government to strictly adhere to the electoral calendar. He emphasized that the electoral schedule belongs to the Cameroonian people, not the administration, and called on all opposition parties to form a united front to defend this fundamental right.

«The elections must proceed—no further postponements. The electoral calendar is not the government’s property; it belongs to the people. I call on all opposition forces to establish a united front on this critical demand,» declared Joshua Osih. So far, his appeal has not yet prompted any reactions from opposition leaders.

The timing of this demand is significant, coming just months after municipal and legislative elections were postponed. The government’s bill was passed by the National Assembly, and a decree signed by President Paul Biya took effect in June 2026, extending mandates until February 2027.
