During the recent PASTEF congress held at the Dakar Arena, Ousmane Sonko signaled a definitive end to certain behavioral patterns, initiating a profound transformation within his political movement. The leader of the Patriots unequivocally denounced the culture of public insults and verbal attacks that has often characterized political discourse. He declared, “Quips, disparaging nicknames, and insults must no longer define PASTEF.” Foreseeing potential provocations from political adversaries, he called upon his supporters to adopt a stance of heightened responsibility and demonstrate absolute respect towards the nation’s institutions, traditional leaders, and religious authorities.
Ousmane Sonko frames this new emphasis on discipline as a core element of a formidable strategy aimed at organizational restructuring and electoral success. Downplaying the recent departures of certain key figures as inconsequential, the president of PASTEF unveiled ambitious organizational targets designed to significantly expand the party’s presence nationwide. These objectives include the sale of one million membership cards and the establishment of ten thousand grassroots cells across the country.
By instructing his followers to “traverse the entire country” and spearhead extensive voter registration drives, Sonko is firmly repositioning his movement as a disciplined and governing party, with its focus entirely geared towards upcoming electoral challenges.
