The first group of Burkinabè pilgrims concluded their spiritual journey and touched down in Ouagadougou on June 2, 2026. A total of 342 faithfuls disembarked at the international airport, greeted by joyful families and government representatives. This milestone flight signals the start of the return phase for pilgrims who fulfilled Islam’s fifth pillar in the holy sites of Mecca.
Dressed in their finest traditional attire, the returning pilgrims radiated happiness, their faces reflecting the fulfillment of a deeply personal and communal obligation. Their expressions spoke volumes about the significance of this spiritual milestone. Among them was Hadja Karidja Karambiri/Koné, whose emotions were palpable as she stepped off the plane.
« Mecca exceeded all my expectations. This first experience was truly fulfilling, and everything went smoothly. We prayed earnestly for peace and social harmony to return to Burkina Faso», she shared, her voice brimming with gratitude.
The Secretary-General of the Ministry of Territorial Administration and Mobility, Saïdou Sankara, conveyed the government’s satisfaction with the pilgrimage’s smooth execution. While refraining from a final assessment, he assured the public that no major incidents had been reported during this year’s Hajj season. His words carried a tone of reassurance and pride.
« This is a moment of immense joy and gratitude as we welcome our brothers and sisters back safely after fulfilling their religious duty. On behalf of the Prime Minister, we have come to honor their return and extend our heartfelt congratulations», he stated.
« We hope this spiritual journey strengthens their faith and that the prayers offered in Mecca are answered—for their well-being, their families, and our nation as a whole», he added, extending blessings to all.

The Burkina Faso Islamic Associations Federation (FAIB), represented by El Hadj Oumarou Zoungrana, praised the meticulous organization of this year’s Hajj. He extended heartfelt congratulations to the steering committee, highlighting the seamless planning that ensured a successful pilgrimage for all participants.
The airlift operations will continue uninterrupted, bringing back the remaining Burkinabè pilgrims under the watchful eyes of both authorities and the organizing committee.
