Political figures denounce smear campaign against ousmane sonko in seck case

The recent detention of political figure Ndiaga Seck has sparked intense debate across public forums. Charged with alleged unnatural acts, he was formally indicted by the investigating judge at the Louga First Chamber before being remanded in custody.

Political figures rally against baseless attacks

In the wake of these developments, social media discussions and online publications have attempted to draw a dubious connection between Ndiaga Seck’s case and Prime Minister Ousmane Sonko’s reputation. This narrative has been strongly condemned by Babacar Ba, Chairman of the Forum of Rights.

Ba argues that these actions constitute a deliberate smear campaign aimed at undermining the Prime Minister’s credibility. “As head of government, Ousmane Sonko represents institutional authority. It is unacceptable to tarnish his image or undermine his reputation through such tactics,” he stated in a public statement.

He further emphasized that Ndiaga Seck’s arrest on alleged unnatural acts should not serve as a pretext to associate his name or image with Ousmane Sonko for the purpose of discrediting him. “Such maneuvers violate the foundational principles of a rule-of-law state and must be rejected outright,” Ba declared.

Legal and ethical implications

Ba’s condemnation highlights growing concerns over the weaponization of legal proceedings to influence public perception. The case underscores the need for judicial integrity to remain above political manipulation, ensuring that legal actions do not become tools for character assassination.
