PSG decides to keep Lucas Chevalier this summer

Lucas Chevalier was initially seen as Gianluigi Donnarumma’s long-term successor at PSG, but he ended up losing his starting spot during the season to Matvey Safonov. Despite this, the Parisian club has reportedly decided not to part ways with the French goalkeeper.

Last summer, PSG was relatively quiet in the transfer market but made a major change. Gianluigi Donnarumma left after a strong second half of the season, replaced by Lucas Chevalier, who arrived from Lille for around €40 million plus bonuses. Chevalier was touted as the future starter in Paris for many years, but after a disappointing start, he quickly lost his place to Matvey Safonov.

PSG has chosen to keep Lucas Chevalier

The Russian international has not relinquished the starting goalkeeper role since displacing Chevalier, and he led the club to back-to-back Champions League titles. This might suggest an uncertain future for the former Lille man in Paris. However, the capital club has decided to retain him this summer. A transfer for Lucas Chevalier is therefore not on the cards, as his attitude and the signals sent during the latter part of the season have convinced the PSG staff.

A young goalkeeper arrives

Meanwhile, PSG is preparing for the future in goal. Alessandro Longoni, an 18-year-old Italian goalkeeper, will join the club on a free transfer from AC Milan. He will compensate for the departure of Renato Marin, who will be loaned for a season to CD Nacional in the Portuguese top division. In other words, while Matvey Safonov and Lucas Chevalier will continue to compete for the starting spot next season, Alessandro Longoni and Renato Marin could eventually replace them in the future.
