A destructive fire swept through the Château market in Kpalimé, located within the Kloto 1 commune, during the night of Sunday, September 6 to Monday, September 7, 2026. The blaze caused extensive material damage to the commercial hub, though fortunately no casualties have been reported.

The fire erupted shortly after midnight, originating in the resettlement zone of the market. Fueled by highly flammable materials and wooden structures, the flames rapidly spread, engulfing adjacent stalls and hangars in a matter of minutes.

Firefighters, supported by the local police force and the National Civil Protection Agency (ANPC), arrived on-site to battle the flames.
