A significant aviation milestone has been achieved as national carrier Royal Air Maroc (RAM) inaugurated its direct service connecting Casablanca with Los Angeles this Sunday. This groundbreaking route establishes the very first direct air link between the African continent and the Pacific coast of the United States, marking a historic leap in global connectivity.

The inaugural journey commenced from Mohammed V Airport at 04:00, embarking on a non-stop 12-hour flight.

The timing of this launch is particularly notable, aligning with the commemoration of two and a half centuries of enduring friendship between Morocco and the United States. Furthermore, it precedes the kick-off of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, where Morocco’s national team, the Atlas Lions, are set to compete.

Hamid Addou, President and CEO of RAM, highlighted the significance of the new connection. “The introduction of this route represents a historic milestone for Royal Air Maroc and for enhancing air connectivity across the African continent,” Addou stated. “By bringing Morocco closer to the American West Coast, we are reaffirming our pivotal role and steadfast commitment to elevating Morocco’s presence on the global stage.”

Boosting Casablanca’s Hub Status with Three Weekly Flights

The newly established service will operate three times a week, utilizing state-of-the-art wide-body aircraft on Tuesdays, Fridays, and Sundays. Flights from Casablanca are scheduled for a 04:00 departure, arriving in Los Angeles at 08:20 local time. Return flights will depart California at 10:20, touching down in Casablanca the following day at 05:25.

This strategic expansion is a key component of the national airline’s development plan, formalized with the government in July 2023. Its primary objective is to solidify Casablanca’s position as a pivotal aviation hub, effectively bridging Africa with Europe and the Americas. The route is also poised to cater to the significant demand from the Moroccan diaspora, international tourists, business travelers, and football enthusiasts.

With this latest inauguration, RAM further strengthens its presence across North America, complementing its well-established direct services to major cities including New York, Washington, Miami, Montréal, and Toronto.
