The Constitutional Council of Senegal has declared itself incompetent to rule on the status of Ousmane Sonko, who serves as the second-highest official in the state. This decision immediately drew sharp reactions, notably from the Front for the Defense of Democracy and the Republic (FDR). In a statement, the coalition acknowledged the ruling but insisted that the council’s declaration of incompetence does not erase the illegality they denounce, calling it a betrayal. The FDR argues that every citizen has a duty to oppose this situation, which they view as contrary to morality and the common good.
Meanwhile, the Conference of Leaders of the FDR announced its determination to take all initiatives deemed relevant, within the framework of the republic’s laws, to build what it calls a democratic alternative. The coalition is calling on political parties, civil society organizations, trade unions, and the youth to join a broad front aimed at achieving this goal.
