Ousmane Sonko lance une nouvelle méthode de contrôle contre Bassirou Diomaye Faye

This newly established mechanism will empower parliamentarians to verify the efficient and transparent utilization of public funds.

A significant reform has recently taken shape within the Senegalese legislative branch. Yesterday, Friday, August 26, 2026, the National Assembly officially inaugurated the Public Policy Evaluation Committee (CEPP). This new body finally fulfills a commitment stemming from the 2016 constitutional revision, marking a historic milestone for transparency and good governance across the nation.

The CEPP represents more than just another committee within parliamentary circles. Its strategic mandate involves scrutinizing the tangible impact of state investments on the daily lives of Senegalese citizens. This institution is tasked with structuring, conducting, and monitoring the assessment of public policies. Through this mechanism, deputies will now have the means to ascertain that public finances are managed both effectively and with complete transparency.

Parliamentarians will no longer solely focus on passing legislation. They are now equipped with a technical arm designed to gauge the efficacy of government actions. To ensure its legitimacy, the CEPP incorporates key figures from within the Assembly. Its diverse composition includes representatives from all political factions in the National Assembly: the President of the National Assembly, the chairs of parliamentary groups, the chairs of the 14 permanent commissions, the representative for non-affiliated deputies, and nine additional deputies appointed proportionally to the political forces present.

This structure guarantees democratic equilibrium, integrating both the majority and the opposition into the crucial process of overseeing public administration.

Ousmane Sonko takes the helm of the bureau

During the inaugural session, the CEPP’s executive board was elected to spearhead the committee’s initial undertakings. As anticipated, the presidency was entrusted to Ousmane Sonko, who currently serves as the President of the National Assembly. His leadership will be pivotal in vesting the committee with the requisite authority to engage with the Executive branch.

He will be supported by Mohamed Sall, elected as First Vice-President, and Djimo Souaré, appointed as Second Vice-President. The administrative management and report drafting responsibilities will be handled by Béatrice Germaine Faye and Adama Diallo, serving as First Secretary and Second Secretary, respectively.

This vote heralds a new era for Senegalese parliamentarism. The CEPP is now tasked with promptly establishing its work agenda. Citizens will keenly anticipate the initial evaluation reports concerning critical sectors such as health, education, and the economy.
