Senegal’s Ousmane Sonko elected national assembly president
Just four days after his dismissal as Prime Minister, Ousmane Sonko secured the presidency of Senegal’s National Assembly on Tuesday.
As leader of the ruling Patriotic Africans of Senegal for Work, Ethics and Fraternity (PASTEF) party, Sonko won 132 votes out of 133 cast, succeeding El Malick Ndiaye, who resigned last Sunday.
On Monday evening, President Faye appointed Ahmadou Al Aminou Lô as the new Prime Minister. Lô previously served as Minister in charge of monitoring, guiding, and evaluating the ‘Senegal 2050 National Transformation Program’ at the presidency, before becoming Secretary-General of the government.
