As preparations intensify for the Grand Magal of Touba slated for August 2, 2026, the President of the National Assembly, Ousmane Sonko, paid a courtesy visit to the spiritual capital of the Mouride Brotherhood. The meeting with the Khalife général of the Mourides, Serigne Mountakha Mbacké, took place this past Thursday, July 30, in Touba.
During the encounter, Sonko extended his deepest respects to the religious leader and underscored the profound spiritual and historical significance of the Grand Magal. This annual event commemorates the exile of Sheikh Ahmadou Bamba, the revered founder of the Mouride movement, who inspired values of faith, perseverance, and devotion among his followers.
In his remarks, Sonko also highlighted the virtues of peace, resilience, and collective progress that define the Mouride tradition. Responding in kind, Serigne Mountakha Mbacké reiterated his longstanding call for national harmony and social cohesion. He concluded by offering prayers for Sonko’s well-being and the continued prosperity of Senegal.
