Tchad and Algeria strengthen oil sector ties with high-level talks

The Director-General of Chad’s Autorité de Régulation du Secteur Pétrolier Aval (ARSAT), Mr. Hassan Adoum Younousmi, met with Algeria’s Minister of State for Hydrocarbons, Mr. Mohamed Arkab, in a pivotal discussion held at the Algerian Ministry of Hydrocarbons headquarters in Algiers. The meeting brought together key advisors from both delegations, marking a significant step in bilateral relations.

This engagement is part of a broader initiative to strengthen Tchad-Algeria oil cooperation and ensure the effective implementation of recent bilateral agreements. The talks centered on critical aspects of the downstream petroleum sector, including regulatory oversight, energy infrastructure development, refining capabilities, storage solutions, and distribution networks.

Industrial safety protocols, digital transformation initiatives, and transparent governance frameworks were also prominent topics, reflecting a shared commitment to modernizing the sector while upholding accountability.

Building on a strategic partnership

The discussions follow the signing of a cooperation protocol between ARSAT and Algeria’s hydrocarbon regulatory authority on April 23, 2026, in Algiers. This landmark agreement aims to foster technical and institutional collaboration through knowledge exchange, best practice sharing, and capacity-building initiatives tailored to national needs.

At the conclusion of the meeting, both sides reaffirmed their dedication to deepening the fraternal ties between Algeria and Chad while advancing sustainable development and regional integration goals across the African continent.

« ARSAT remains steadfast in its mission to collaborate closely with Algerian partners to elevate Chad’s downstream petroleum sector and uplift national expertise, » stated Mr. Hassan Adoum Younousmi, Director-General of ARSAT, underscoring the shared vision for progress.
