Togo energy shake-up as CEET director general dismissed

The leadership of Togo’s state-run electricity provider is undergoing a significant shift after Débo-K’mba Barandao was removed from his position as Director-General of the Compagnie Énergie Électrique du Togo (CEET).

While no formal statement has been released regarding the reasons behind his removal, the decision comes at a time when the CEET continues to grapple with persistent challenges in power supply reliability and service quality across its national grid.

Barandao, who took office in March 2022, was tasked with steering multiple reforms aimed at organizational and operational restructuring within the utility. His tenure was characterized by ambitious modernization projects designed to overhaul the company’s infrastructure and internal processes.

The CEET serves as a cornerstone of Togo’s energy sector, yet it has long contended with recurring issues, including frequent power outages and the pressing need for upgraded facilities. These operational hurdles have underscored the urgency of strategic changes within the organization.

As of now, no announcement has been made regarding Barandao’s successor. A replacement is expected to be named in the coming days to ensure seamless continuity in the company’s operations.
