UNESCO Mali fosters youth excellence in science and innovation.

This pivotal event convened students, educators, academic leaders, and various partners, all united in their commitment to nurturing excellence within Malian youth, particularly in the critical domains of science and innovation.

On Saturday, July 4, 2026, the UNESCO Office in Mali proudly participated in the awards ceremony for the 16th Inter-Lycées Excellence Competition. This prestigious event, held at the École Nationale d’Ingénieurs Abderhamane Baba Touré (ENI-ABT) and organized through an invitation from its dedicated UNESCO Club, brought together a diverse group including students, academic personnel, teachers, and various partners. Their collective aim was to champion excellence among Malian youth, particularly within the crucial fields of science and innovation.

In his welcoming address, Dr. Kélétigui DAOU, the esteemed Director General of ENI-ABT, conveyed his sincere appreciation to UNESCO for its active involvement in this significant undertaking. He commended the Organization’s steadfast commitment to advancing education throughout Mali, specifically emphasizing UNESCO’s impactful initiatives designed to enhance access for girls to STIM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) disciplines, alongside its efforts to stimulate scientific research and foster innovation among the younger generation.

The ceremony also featured a compelling speech from the Secretary General of the ENI-ABT UNESCO Club. She highlighted the profound significance of this 16th edition in recognizing and celebrating academic achievement and excellence. Furthermore, she underscored the vital role that UNESCO Clubs play in cultivating core values such as civic engagement, peace, and sustainable development within the student community.

Mme Oumou Dicko, UNESCO’s Sciences Program Officer, extended her heartfelt congratulations to both the organizers for orchestrating a highly successful event and to the students for their unwavering dedication. She detailed numerous opportunities UNESCO offers to young individuals pursuing research, including valuable scholarships, mentorship programs, and avenues for participation in the Organization’s various international observances. Mme Dicko passionately encouraged students to further immerse themselves in subjects centered on science and innovation, emphasizing their crucial potential to contribute meaningfully to their nation’s progress and development.
