Urgent call to protect civilian movement in Mali amid jihadist blockade

Human rights group urges jihadists to end Bamako blockade in Mali

A leading international human rights organization has issued a strong appeal to armed groups operating in Mali, demanding an immediate end to attacks that have crippled vital transportation routes into the capital, Bamako. The blockade, now in its third week, has cut off the landlocked nation from critical imports, leaving millions of civilians facing severe hardship.

The crisis escalated after Jama’at Nusrat al-Islam wal Muslimin (JNIM) jihadists initiated a systematic closure of key roads leading to Bamako. These routes are essential for delivering food, medical supplies, and fuel to a city of over two million residents. The humanitarian impact has been devastating, with reports of food shortages, rising prices, and disrupted healthcare services across the country.
