The United States Secretary of State, Marco Rubio, conveyed a congratulatory message to King Mohammed VI on July 30, marking the 27th anniversary of the monarch’s ascension to the throne of Morocco.
In his remarks, Rubio highlighted the enduring bond between the two nations, stating, “For nearly 250 years, Morocco and the United States have maintained one of the longest-standing friendships in American history. This partnership stands on solid ground, built on shared values and a mutual commitment to peace, security, and prosperity.”
He extended warm greetings to His Majesty King Mohammed VI and the people of Morocco, emphasizing the significance of the occasion in a formal statement released by the U.S. State Department.
Looking ahead, Rubio stressed that Morocco and the U.S. will deepen their collaboration across multiple sectors in the coming years. “Together, we will continue to advance regional stability, foster economic growth, and promote peace for the benefit of both our nations,” he noted.
The U.S. diplomat reiterated Washington’s unwavering stance on the Sahara issue, affirming, “Under President Trump’s leadership, the United States firmly recognizes Morocco’s sovereignty over the Sahara and supports the country’s autonomy proposal as the only viable foundation for a fair, lasting, and mutually acceptable solution.”
Rubio warned against alternative approaches, stating, “Any other path would only prolong the status quo, which is unacceptable. A genuine autonomy under Morocco’s sovereignty offers this region and the continent the opportunity to move forward after decades of stagnation.”
He praised Morocco’s regional leadership, particularly its pivotal role in brokering the Abraham Accords. “Under the visionary guidance of His Majesty Mohammed VI, Morocco remains a cornerstone of stability and security in North Africa. The U.S. places immense value on this partnership and eagerly anticipates strengthening collaboration to enhance security in the Sahel,” Rubio remarked.
The Secretary of State also underscored the importance of economic development, noting that King Mohammed VI’s vision will drive new prosperity for both nations. “President Trump has directed this administration to foster economic and social growth with Morocco, including within the territory of the Sahara,” he added.
Concluding his message, Rubio reaffirmed the U.S. commitment to being a trusted ally in critical areas. “As we look toward the next 250 years of friendship, the United States will remain Morocco’s steadfast partner in energy, artificial intelligence, critical minerals, and defense,” he declared.
