The United States and Bénin have solidified their strategic defense alliance following recent discussions. General Christopher J. Mahoney, Vice Chairman of the U.S. Joint Chiefs of Staff, convened at the Pentagon with Major General Fructueux Gbaguidi, Chief of Staff of the Bénin Armed Forces, to advance their shared security objectives.

A primary focus of their dialogue was on joint security initiatives and the ongoing military assistance provided by Washington, particularly through the U.S. Africa Command (Africom). Both senior officials underscored the critical importance of a stable, secure, and democratic Bénin as a cornerstone for broader regional peace and stability.

They affirmed a mutual commitment to intensifying military cooperation and fostering collaborative efforts with other regional partners. This enhanced teamwork aims to effectively counter transnational threats and ensure long-term security across the region.
