On its 20th anniversary, the esteemed pan-African platform “Les Bâtisseurs de l’Économie Africaine” proudly announced the recognition of several African nations. These countries were lauded for their exemplary public policies and outstanding sectoral achievements, which have significantly propelled the continent’s economic and social advancement.
This special edition features a new, exceptional award category, specifically designed to commend states that have demonstrated remarkable progress in key strategic sectors, directly attributable to their effective and visionary public policy implementations.
An independent jury, comprising African experts and seasoned journalists, meticulously selected the awardees. Their rigorous evaluation considered various criteria, including the profound impact of public policies, robust economic performance, notable sectoral advancements, and each nation’s commitment to fostering African integration.
The unveiled list of honorees highlights diverse achievements across the continent. The Democratic Republic of Congo earned distinction in the mining sector, while Côte d’Ivoire was celebrated for its agricultural prowess. The Seychelles received accolades for its advancements in education, training, and employment. Morocco was recognized for its contributions to health and pharmaceutical sectors, Egypt for groundbreaking infrastructure development, and Kenya for its leadership in technology, artificial intelligence, and innovation.
Further acknowledging vital contributions, Algeria was honored for its achievements in the energy sector, and South Africa for its robust industries and services. Tanzania’s excellence in tourism and hospitality was celebrated, as was Nigeria’s vibrant creative and cultural industries. Morocco also garnered a second distinction, this time for its dedication to environmental stewardship and green development initiatives.
Several special awards were also presented. Namibia was recognized for its commitment to gender equality and the empowerment of women. Ghana received an award for its efforts in facilitating the return of African diasporas and promoting regional integration. Notably, Morocco received the prestigious 20-Year Special Award from “Les Bâtisseurs de l’Économie Africaine,” acknowledging the significant transformations witnessed within the country over two decades.
Michel Russel Lohoré, the founding president of “Les Bâtisseurs de l’Économie Africaine,” elaborated on the initiative’s core mission. He explained that these awards aim to spotlight not only prominent businesses and economic figures but also the impactful public policies and national visions that are sustainably transforming African economies.
Valentin Mbougueng, a journalist and international affairs specialist who presided over the jury, affirmed that their evaluations drew upon comprehensive rankings from international and regional organizations, insights from specialized publications, and the extensive on-the-ground expertise of the jury members themselves.
The distinguished award-winning nations will be formally celebrated during a grand gala evening, scheduled for June 18 in Abidjan, marking the platform’s 20th anniversary.
