Algeria strengthens Niger’s defense with helicopter and equipment donation

Under the directives of Algeria’s President, Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces and Minister of National Defense, Mr. Abdelmadjid Tebboune, the Algerian military has delivered a strategic donation to Niger’s armed forces. This gesture, executed by the Chief of Staff of the People’s National Army (ANP), General Saïd Chanegriha, includes four helicopters and essential military equipment.

The donation comprises two MI-24V attack helicopters and two MI-171 multi-role helicopters, which departed today from the secondary deployment base at In Gezzam in the 6th Military Region, bound for Niamey’s international airport. Alongside the aircraft, a consignment of munitions, spare parts, maintenance tools, and logistical support materials was airlifted via an Algerian military transport aircraft to the same destination.

This initiative underscores Algeria’s commitment to fostering bilateral cooperation, particularly in defense and security, while reinforcing historical and fraternal ties between the two nations. By enhancing Niger’s operational capabilities, the donation aims to bolster regional stability and security efforts.

The Algerian Ministry of National Defense emphasized that this contribution aligns with the country’s ongoing efforts to support regional partners in strengthening collective defense mechanisms and countering shared security challenges.
